This was one of my highlights of our trip. We managed to find an apartment on booking.com before we left New Zealand and not knowing the area at all we managed to hit the jackpot with location! 500m away from the best street food we've ever had!
When I thought of Liverpool, I had an idea of a heavily industrial town and slightly run down. I was completely wrong! The town was buzzing with young people and has an obvious foodie culture evident when you walk through the town. Cute little coffee shops and neon lights drawing you to the NY style pizza shop. The options for food were endless. Like Carnaby Street in London, K-Road in Auckland or Cuba Street in Wellington, Bold Street is bustling with eateries, beautiful boutiques and tattoo parlors. We stopped for a coffee at Bold Street Coffee ( https://www.boldstreetcoffee.co.uk/ ) for a brew and some brekkie. It's a must do! The coffee was to die for and the food was next level. Be sure to try one of the 'buoys', a fresh bun filled with your choice of filling; fried egg, hash brown, sausage.. you get the idea. A perfect start to a day exploring this beautiful city.
If the food and coffee wasn't enough, the culture in Liverpool was prevalent everywhere you looked. Of course there were Beatles tours and paraphernalia everywhere, but under all of that seemed to be a big music culture with lots of live music venues on Bold Street and around the area. But there was one thing that caught my eye when looking at the 'what's on' section in the city guide. A beautiful exhibition made with the permission of Yoko Ono on her life with John Lennon called 'Double Fantasy' held at the Museum of Liverpool. It was absolutely stunning. Such a moving and tragic story that left me speechless. If you are in Liverpool the exhibition is showing until November 2019 and is a must see.
A walk around the docks is another must do. The
We only had 2 days in Liverpool and it wasn't enough. I would love to go back and explore some more. Hopefully sooner rather than later!
